Aaaand… they’re back.
No wait, wrong image. That picture was from 160 years ago, a Jules Verne illustration that is uncannily accurate.

What a day. What a mission. I hope it’s the first of many, and deep space is again open to human exploration.
I remember the book, though I read it in the age when all physical inaccuracies were looking weird. Still it is amusing what monsieur Verne predicted exactly – leading role of US.
Though as I understand we should wait for 2028 to see something really new. Moon flybys were practiced since about 1960s I believe both by US and Soviets, thus it looks currently as regaining / reaffirming pretty old achievements.
Moon base of course will be very, very different story. Anyway there are good chances we’ll all be able to witness it.
