Repeatedly, I see questions on Quora, asking why Canada resists Trump’s suggestion of becoming the 51st state. Why bother going through the likely hardships instead of giving in to Mr. Trump’s will?
Very well, allow me to offer my own contribution, to help the process along. Here, I designed a nice voting slip that could be used for this purpose. The date, of course, can be easily changed.
I must confess that the idea is not original. I had help, an elegant historical precedent that, I think, is perfectly suitable for this purpose:
I hope my contribution is received in the same spirit in which it is offered, and perhaps thanked by a nice, “from the heart” gesture (with the right arm properly extended of course) by those who approve.

Nice graphics, Viktor! After first few seconds of bewilderment I immediately recognized the “reference” by two circles of different size, without scrolling down – and surely was quite proud of my intuition :)

Hilarious! As remote as i am from the matter, I feel much surprised that people may ask this. Actually I’m quite surprised someone (some trump) may suggest this. US had almost century long story of struggle to get northern and southern states aligned (well, ending with war) – so how one may think of joining not a single 51-th but actually 51-th to 60-th states (ex-provinces) in a course of a year or two (four at most) – given so significant difference in culture, inheritance and what is technically most important – jurisdiction, or how to call it properly.
Just because Canada was too well aligned with US in politics during recent years?
I wonder why he haven’t yet suggested joining UK as a state. Or four states. Or perhaps not four as Scotland may prefer split and join EU.
Google says there is no book “Populism in Action” (yet) – bother. Interesting how some big-mouth guy says gibberish and it starts being so widely discussed. Given that latest states, pretty small and pre-existing as “territories” were joined over half-century ago, I suspect that even if Canada hypothetically agrees, Trump should become Methuselah to see this initiative implemented.
Curiously, serious people began to toy with the idea of Canada joining the EU instead :-)
