The pictures were uploaded without commentary; all we know is that they originate from the late 1950s and the early 1960s.<\/p>\n<p>As I browsed through the images, one of them in particular caught my attention, taken in the year of my own birth no less:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fortepan.hu\/?img=104454\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7911\" src=\"https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/fortepan_104454_small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"823\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/fortepan_104454_small.jpg 730w, https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/fortepan_104454_small-266x300.jpg 266w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think I need to elaborate. This was not meant to be an artistic photograph, just documentary evidence in a police file. Still&#8230; it&#8217;s been a while since I last saw a picture that expresses desperation so powerfully.<\/p>\n<p>I wonder who was the unfortunate person whose belongings are seen here.\u00a0I wonder what drove her to this fateful moment. I wonder if she survived. No information is provided other than a registration number,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lnyr.eleveltar.hu\/BFLQuery\/archivplansuche.aspx?ID=32567\">HU.BFL.XV.19.c.10<\/a>: When I Google it, all I learn is that this picture belongs in a collection of crime scene\u00a0negatives, taken between 1956 and 1992 and stored in 93 small boxes at the National Archives of Hungary.<\/p>\n<fb:like href='https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/?p=7910' send='true' layout='standard' show_faces='true' width='450' height='65' action='like' colorscheme='light' font='lucida grande'><\/fb:like>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fortepan is an amazing Hungarian\u00a0archive of historical photographs.
