{"id":7771,"date":"2016-05-05T23:12:10","date_gmt":"2016-05-06T03:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/?p=7771"},"modified":"2016-05-05T23:12:10","modified_gmt":"2016-05-06T03:12:10","slug":"russian-class-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/?p=7771","title":{"rendered":"Russian class act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>And just when you least expect it&#8230; Russia celebrates its victories in Syria over ISIL with a class act, an amazing concert by the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra of St. Petersburg, held at the ancient amphitheater that is at the center of Palmyra&#8217;s Roman era ruins, badly damaged (not to mention desecrated with barbaric public executions) by the Islamic State.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9b0hFIf4Zaw\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Russia, of course, intervened not for reasons of altruism but because American indecisiveness offered them an opportunity to prop up Assad&#8217;s regime. Nonetheless, I much rather watch an amazing concert like this than public beheadings.<\/p>\n<p>And the music was, in fact, amazing. It included a piece titled <i>Quadrille<\/i>, from contemporary Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin&#8217;s opera <i>Not Love Alone<\/i>. I think I ought learn a little more about contemporary Russian opera.<\/p>\n<p>The concert was carried live (of course) by RT, complete with a televised greeting by Putin.
