{"id":1745,"date":"2010-09-03T19:53:21","date_gmt":"2010-09-03T19:53:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/?p=1745"},"modified":"2010-09-03T19:56:33","modified_gmt":"2010-09-03T19:56:33","slug":"electroweak-coupling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/?p=1745","title":{"rendered":"Electroweak coupling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Electroweak theory has several coupling constants: there is <em>g<\/em>, there is <em>g<\/em>&#8216;, there is <em>e<\/em>, and then there is the Weinberg angle \u03b8<em><sub>W<\/sub><\/em> and its sine and cosine, and I am always worried about making mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>Well, here&#8217;s a neat way to remember: the three constants and the Weinberg angle have a nice geometrical relationship (as it should be evident from the fact that the Weinberg angle is just a measure of the abstract rotation that is used to break the symmetry of a massless theory).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/EWtriangle.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1750\" title=\"EWtriangle\" src=\"http:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/EWtriangle.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"433\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/EWtriangle.gif 433w, https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/EWtriangle-300x168.gif 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 433px) 100vw, 433px\" \/><\/a>This diagram also makes it clear that so long as you keep the triangle a right triangle, all it takes is two numbers (e.g., <em>e<\/em> and \u03b8<em><sub>W<\/sub><\/em>) and the triangle is fully determined.
