{"id":10018,"date":"2020-06-09T12:15:19","date_gmt":"2020-06-09T16:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/?p=10018"},"modified":"2020-06-09T12:15:19","modified_gmt":"2020-06-09T16:15:19","slug":"in-the-year-2889","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/?p=10018","title":{"rendered":"In the year 2889"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 1889, a story by Jules Verne (believed to have been written actually by his son, Michel Verne) was published in the American magazine Forum under the title, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gutenberg.org\/files\/19362\/19362-h\/19362-h.htm\">In the Year 2889<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>In it, among other things, Verne envisions video conferencing.<\/p>\n<p>Verne&#8217;s story was illustrated by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Roux\">George Roux<\/a>, who is best known for his numerous illustrations for Verne&#8217;s science-fiction novels. I suspect that this particular picture was made in 1889 or 1890 (when Verne&#8217;s story, which appeared originally in English, was republished in France.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gutenberg.org\/files\/19362\/19362-h\/19362-h.htm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10019\" src=\"https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/in-the-year-2889.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"526\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/in-the-year-2889.jpg 730w, https:\/\/spinor.info\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/in-the-year-2889-300x216.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I find this image mind-boggling.
